House & Improvements

Chinquapin features a riverfront Mediterranean style 18,000 square foot house built in 1910 by Standard Oil Company heir, John F. "Jack" Archbold. The architect was A.S. Bell of New York, whom Archbold also commissioned to build Thomasville’s John D. Archbold Hospital in memory of his father in 1925. The seven bedroom house features elaborate woodwork, expansive porches and verandas, a foyer featuring a curved staircase, and a tile roof. Upon purchasing the plantation in 1982, Rolf and Alexandra Kauka renovated the house then restored and expanded it in 2000.

Adjacent to the historic riverfront main house is a two-bedroom guest house styled like a Swiss Chalet. Additional improvements include six tenant houses, a plantation office, saline pool and pool house, four car detached garage, various barns, skeet range, and kennel. There are several shooting stands and a good road system. Tucked away on a small pond is an island with a gazebo and boardwalk, built as a surprise for Mrs. Kauka from her husband. The main entrance to the property is gated features a gated entrance.
